Damon and Elena met first
What I love most about this scene, above the foreshadowing of the need for passion and being consumed by love when in a relationship, was how sensitive Damon was with Elena. Even when he was destroying everyone else’s lives and chewing on random townsfolk, he was the ‘better man’ when it came to her. He simply gave her advice, wasn’t snarky, didn’t suck her dry, and compelled her to live for what she wanted because already, she had that ‘humanity’ effect on him. She was the only exception to his lifestyle, the only one that made him pause and act like a decent human being. And that, is downright beautiful.
